Antonito Junior/Senior High School
Total Capital Improvement Needs: $3,750,551
Major Problems:

Building Conditions: cracking and separation in flooring; leaky roof; windows are old and not insulated; tile and carpet repair; poor heat distribution; minimal lighting; unsafe fire and safety system; flood damage; old and problematic plumbing; ceiling tiles are falling.

Site Conditions: cracks and potholes in parking lot; driveways are gravel; cracking in sidewalks; no athletic courts; basketball backboards located on the parking lot; there are only 3 athletic fields (1 grass, 2 gravel) – they are located several blocks from the school; no irrigation system or water source at any of the playfields – due to remote location, portable toilets are used; minimal lighting on grounds.

Educational Suitability: no signage or designated area for buses or parent vehicles; basketball courts are not separated for parking areas; baseball fields are located 4 blocks from the school site; no track, tennis courts or soccer field; signage is poor; one wing of classrooms is under the gym, allowing noise generated in the gym to be heard; minimal storage in some classrooms; remedial learning space is not near the media center or computer lab; library is in a space that was originally the cafeteria – too small and does not have a work room, separate office, conference room or audio visual storage space; media center is located near the main lobby and gym – noisy at times; wrestling room is inadequate in size; coaches office, training room and team room are inadequate in size – formerly a kitchen; gym is located in a different building than the fitness and wrestling rooms; music room is inadequate in size and located in a different building than the performance area (located in the cafeteria building); art is not offered; welding is the only vocational class offered; restrooms in one wing have been closed for several years; same room is used for both teacher lounge and workroom – limited storage and no restroom; food is transported from the elementary school to serve students; cafeteria space doubles as a performance facility; limited amenities for counseling; clinic is in the cafeteria building and only available 6 hours per week; no designated reception area.
