JEFFERSON (information compiled by Donnell-Kay, May 2005)

In Jefferson County School District, district officials have documented a $577 million backlog of capital needs in addition to its recent successful $324 million bond measure. And, in addition to both these amounts, the district has a $444 million list of lower priority capital needs. This number includes: security upgrades, roof repairs, HVAC renovations and upgrades, fire and security alarm systems, ADA accessibility and permanent structures for the district's preschool program. These estimates do not include anything related to demographics (new schools, additions, etc.). In the past 20 years, this district has never had a bond or capital program that dealt with more than 25% of the unfunded need (despite passing the two largest bonding measures in Colorado's history).
