LIBERTY (information compiled by Donnell-Kay, in part from CDE grant appplications, September 2006)

Liberty School District is a rural community in which the average income is $32,000. The size and nature of this community makes it virtually impossible for a bond to be passed and carried out. Yet, the school in Joes, which houses pre-K through 12th, was built in 1966 and since then only a limited amount of renovation has been done. Many items have been neglected and pose serious safety and security risks for students and employees and the building no longer meets codes in areas such as doors and locks. The science facility is very unsafe with inadequate ventilation and shower facilities which have not been upgraded since the school was built in 1966. Additionally, there is asbestos throughout the building and many other unsafe features.
