WESTMINSTER (information compiled by Donnell-Kay, October 2006)

The last successful bond measure in the Westminster district was over a decade ago. Their aging buildings and facilities are all coming due for serious repair, renovation and/or replacement now. The last school built in the district was constructed in 1975 when Gerald Ford was president. The average age of all their buildings is 49 years old. Three of the district’s school buildings have reached the end of their useful life (they are collectively more than 230 years old). For these schools, it would be less expensive to rebuild them than to repair and renovate them. The highest priority projects in the district include repairs of unsound foundations, failing roofs, boilers, plumbing and electric that pose immediate health and safety threats to students. The district has documented $229 million in facility needs. However, the total bonding capacity in this district – i.e. the most money they could possibly raise through local bonds - is only $98 million.
